That’s interesting. I didn’t knew of that way actually.
It has not became mainstream yet though. Wonder whyIt seems ClearInk displays are using same technology as color eink screens. Both basic displays are black and white and use an additional layer which adds color.
So yes the additional layer most likely add cost. Though the question is, is it +50% on the component price or +5%.
Currently I don’t see it as a must have feature as a black and white epaper would definitly do the job. We’ll see what the epaper manufacturers say about it.April 26, 2020 at 2:46 pm in reply to: Project update 3 : New renders and website being prepared. #1091@Leorioki thickness will be around 10mm. This will let us have a big battery while having a small size, and a good camera in the pop up module.
Weight is hard to predict. Though what is most annoying about weight is when phone is big, because the weight is not centered in your hand but above it. That’s why big phones feel heavy actually. For the mockup I already made some here just based on existing phones by taping extra elements. Adding a pencil on an iphone4 side will get you a very good approximation of 4.7″ mockup for instance 🙂
And yes I can prepare STL. I have not printed any yet because of shutdown in France. I can’t get to a 3D printer.
I’m also planning on making metal structure sample to be able to test the camera popup mechanism.@Slevin56 thanks for the name ideas. Yes we’re currently looking for name ideas as OneDevice is difficult to protect.
Hi Wasserpflanze !
Thanks for joining and glad you like it!
Thanks for the link, I seen more people coming in the project and was wondering where they were coming from 🙂About the progress bar yes you are right it could be good to give an overview. It would need some website coding I’ll think on it. Meanwhile I can tell you that we are around 2300 people. So community is growing steadily 🙂
Water protection are very hard to achieve indeed. I think pop up camera will probably not help. We’ll see what we can do when we are more advanced in our discussion with ODM
I totally agree with you. I have been testing a glossy glass eink device and it reflect light too much. Matte glass is much better.
Yota2 is made of matte glass. Indeed it feels really good. Thanks for the tip I will definitly check it out and try to reach out to them!
It indeed looks interestingApril 22, 2020 at 11:33 am in reply to: Project update 3 : New renders and website being prepared. #1049Salut! Oui bien sur pour les rendus 3D ca serait super! envoi moi un mail à hello@oreason.io pour qu’on en discute!
Pour la taille définitive c’est encore en réflexion entre 4.7″ et 5″
If it’s only 20% more and same thickness than yes it would definitly be interesting.
Glad you’d prefer OneDevice 🙂
Oh yeah it’s big. I actually have one to check it out. It’s the biggest phone I seen so far. It’s actually bigger than the specs I found online.
Screen is LCD LTPS not amoled. If we make two versions they will probably be based on same phone, so same size and screens. Only differences will be eink vs no eink, ram/memory, maybe some additional feature that can be added only on the pro version. The idea will be to develop only one smartphone and remove things from it to make the lite version. This way we will have to pay the development of only one phone. Else if we make 2 different models we need to pay twice the development, which is considerable
J’avais pas vu!Regarding color Eink, I fear it adds thickness to the display. Also it’s probably much more expensive displays. Color eink could be interesting though for BD/comics the OneDevice screen will be relatively small. So I’m unsure if it would be worth it to use a color eink.
I’ll investigate the question with Eink company.
@Leorioki why not using a A6L then if you want a LCD on your A5? 🙂 -
