Look at this. Is awesome! https://www.clearinkdisplays.com/technology
April 24, 2020 at 4:05 pm #1075This is actually not E-INK but LCD mixed with E-ink technology and its awesome! It can deliver more than 30 FPS. No backlight. No eyestrain. Faboulous use on smartphone. Video is perfect. Photos and other media consumption also!!
Pierre definitely make a thought about this! It is even smaller and thinner than any eink!!
You can contact them they will be very happy to hear that there is a Smartphone niche that is interested in this!!THIS WOULD BE THE BEST SELLING POINT OF THIS PHONE BECAUSE IS NOT E INK, BUT BETTER (AN E-LCD) 🙂
ps: can you edit the title to “Color E-LCDInk new Technology. Run at 30+fps”

April 26, 2020 at 9:48 am #1081This reminds me the Pixel QI display of the Adam: a regular color LCD indoor, but B/W transreflective outdoor.
Another color display technology, very effective but very old and I don’t know why it didn’t become mainstream, was the one used in the Garmin Gpsmap color units in the early 2000: http://blog.magnolo.com/sunlight-readable-displays/
I still wonder why it disappeared.April 26, 2020 at 1:06 pm #1082Thanks for the tip I will definitly check it out and try to reach out to them!
It indeed looks interestingApril 26, 2020 at 2:40 pm #1090We don’t need color i think. We need a “cheap” and buyable device. Color e-ink means that this phone will never be sell
April 28, 2020 at 9:07 am #1097It seems ClearInk displays are using same technology as color eink screens. Both basic displays are black and white and use an additional layer which adds color.
So yes the additional layer most likely add cost. Though the question is, is it +50% on the component price or +5%.
Currently I don’t see it as a must have feature as a black and white epaper would definitly do the job. We’ll see what the epaper manufacturers say about it.May 6, 2020 at 9:14 am #1153I think we need a cheap device, but I would make sense of a “pro” device because in this case, the final user could have at least 2 choices.
The 2 versions could have the same “overall design” for production but I would definitely use CLEARINk displays for the front on the pro model, which is not an e-ink paper, but its a “transflective LCD”. I would use that for the front, and keep the back a normal b/w e ink screen only for reading.
If clearing wouldn’t be available, in that case, front LCD and back Color E ink (with algorithms to speed up the FPS)
To me, this makes more sense 🙂
This respect the user searching for the cheap version but also the pro user want to pay for the CLEARIk technology (that will be awesome)May 6, 2020 at 1:50 pm #1157Yes but I could not establish discussion with Clearink yet.
Hope they’ll feedback laterJune 2, 2020 at 1:24 pm #1239This new color e ink smartphone made by hisense is pretty phenomenal! I have embed 2 Video that show how it works in realtime. VIDEO 1
VIDEO 2
The Phone is a Hisense A5 pro cc. I do own an Hisense A5c and this new one is pretty different! It not only seems to have amazing color reproduction! But it also have incredible smoothness and speed! Becauser they are using 2 new more “Display Algorithm” to overclock the e-ink and tweak the image to provide speed!
If clearink doesnt reach back to you, this is definetly the way to go for the OneDevice. It still is an E-ink, with an RGB Color Filter applied to it! Trust me because I have had yet b/w eink. Color is a must to perceive things faster and better.
I make an example. I have the app on my lockscreen. If i know their color i just go for the “Red” youtube app, or “blue” facebook app. Instead on B/w you have to search for it.
Again images and videos. Since this thing have an incredible speed is suitable for video (even for games?)
Check yourself on the link at the video posted above!
This is amazing guys! Its a must to me and for the people!June 5, 2020 at 6:21 am #1247Yes I seen the color A5, the refresh rate is getting better indeed.
September 12, 2020 at 5:22 pm #1475I would personally prefer the black and white e-ink display. If I need color then I’ll use the standard display. Color e-ink still can’t compare in terms of contrast to the b/w panels.
October 19, 2020 at 10:25 pm #1519Salut,
